KINNOULL BOWLING CLUB HISTORY

Kinnoull Recreation Club was instituted in 1887 and was made up of 3 sections. They were Bowling, Tennis and Curling. The Honorary President of the club was the landlord the Earl of Kinnoull until his death in 1916.

The total cost of forming the grounds and erecting a pavilion and tool house was £487- 17- 9d of which £385- 3- 6d was raised from members with the principle founding members being Sir Robert Pullar and his brother James F Pullar, both sons of John Pullar the founder of the business that became Pullars of Perth.

By 1889 the Recreation Club had a Bank overdraft of £149- 6- 2d so a special fund was arranged to reduce the debt and extend the bowling green and members contributed £210- 3- 0d for this. The cost of extending the bowling green was £124 with the work carried out by D&R Taylor and by the year end February 1891 the Recreation Club were in credit at the Bank of £ 30- 4- 2d.

Over the years the curling section became defunct most likely due to the opening of the Scottish Central Ice Rink at Muirton in 1956. The Bowling and Tennis clubs continued to operate as Kinnoull Recreation Club until 1985 when they went their separate ways and now operate as two individual clubs.
